With more and more faculty putting courses online in response to quarantining in the wake of COVID-19, there’s been a lot of focus on content creation and sharing such as creating microlectures as accessible recordings or as live synchronous sessions in a web-conferencing platform like Zoom. But now people are getting a little tired of Zoom sessions being the sole approach to content creation and sharing. So here’s another idea — TedEd. TedEd provides an easy-to-use template for creating lessons using Ted Talks, YouTube videos, or videos you create and upload to YouTube.
Here is an example of one I have used on A Brief History of Graffiti. I really like the TedEd template that provides the Watch, Think, Dig Deeper, Discuss structure. And if I find a lesson I like I can easily edit it for use in my own course. Here are the lessons available sorted to show only those listed appropriate for College/University student level.
Another use of TedEd that I really like is that students can also create lessons. For an online or remote course this is a great way of having students present on a topic — instead of a slideshow presentation alone, students can create an entire lesson around their own video or a TedTalk or YouTube video.
