Joanna “Joni” Dunlap, MBA PhD [she, her, hers]
I am a Professor and Program Chair of learning design and technology in the School of Education and Human Development and I am the Senior Faculty Fellow with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver, for short). My teaching and research interests focus on the use of sociocultural approaches to enhance students’ learning and experience in postsecondary settings. I have listed many of my publications on the My Publications page of this site. Please contact me if you would like a copy of my full vita. I currently teach three courses in learning design and technology:
INTE 5250 Teaching Strategies for Online and Blended Learning
INTE 4/5665 Social Media and Digital Cultures
INTE 5670 Crafting Synchronous Learning
INTE 4/5711 Creative Designs for Instructional Materials
I have a PhD in Educational Administration, Leadership, and Supervision (emphasis in instructional design and technology). I also have an MBA. I have been a professor at the University of Colorado Denver since 2000. I haven’t always been an academic: I produced and directed pledge drives for public television, I was a publicist, I was a project manager at Brøderbund Software during the dawn of personal computers, among other adventures.
My hobbies include anything involving my husband and daughters (ages 17 and 14); playing piano, guitar and ukulele; oil painting; writing and storytelling; yoga and dancing; and talking about going camping. I’m crazy about British comedy, corny musicals, science fiction movies from the 1950s, Alexander Calder and related kinetic artists and works, and the ocean; and I collect old science and social science textbooks (1930s-1960s). I’m a vegetarian, and a breast cancer survivor. My favorite color is purple.
